January 8 Duals Recap

South Georgia Matmen staff report

BLACKSHEAR — After a competitive fight Saturday for a second-place finish at the Packer Classic, and with region duals looming this weekend, Ware rested several starters in Tuesday night’s away dual at Pierce.

The outcome was largely the same, however, as a mixture of Gator starters and replacements rolled to a 57-24 victory over the Bears.

Ware got falls from Anthony Phillips (106), Grayson Smith (120), Jeremy Butler (138), Kobie Turner (160), Jesus Hernandez (195), Zay Taylor (220) and Izzy Smalls (285), plus a 7-6 win from Ethan Frye at 113.

Pierce’s points came by falls at 126, 132, 145 and 152. Names for Pierce wrestlers were not immediately available.

Ware will be in action Saturday for Region 2-5A competition, hosted by South Effingham. Pierce County will be at Area 1-3A.

Wayne sweeps Bacon double: At Bacon County HS in Alma, Wayne took down two opponents, with wins over the hosts (66-12 and McIntosh County Academy (48-24).

The Yellow Jackets got falls from Elijah Adams (132), Jahquan Felix (138), Joseph Miller (145), Brenden Wild (182) and Justin Goober (220) in the Bacon dual, while Felix and David Mansfield (wrestling at 220) won by fall over McIntosh County Academy.

The Buccaneers had pins from Chance Porch (120), William Daughtry (160), Tyler Crosby (170) and Nicolas Sumner (182). Bacon’s lone victor in a contested match was CJ Preston at 160.

Wayne will also be at South Effingham for Region 2-5A competition on Saturday, while Bacon will compete in Area 1-2A duals competition and McIntosh will be in Area 1-1A dual tournament action at Irwin County on Saturday.

Bainbridge 54, Crisp 23: At Bainbridge, the hosts took care of business, thanks in no small part to five forfeits, but did outpoint Crisp in contested matches as well.

Chris Rainey (170), Randy Fillingame (182), Michael Jackson (132) and Kendall Glover (145) each had pins for the Bearcats.

Bainbridge is next up in Region 1-5A competition this Friday.

Reminder to readers: This website is nearly 100% dependent upon coach support. We will write about what we receive, but we cannot write what we do not receive from your coaches. Each coach for whom I have an email address gets at least weekly emails from me, if not more frequently. We had six competitions scheduled for Tuesday night; we received one and just in the last couple of minutes got an email notification about another, which will be added to our duals page and to this story later today upon receipt.

Match-by-match results from Tuesday’s duals, as they are reported, can be found here.
